Digitising the Australian Geographic image collection

Australian Geographic was formed before the common usage of digital photography, creating collections that were part analogue and part digital. Like many organisations with contemporary and historical collections, its goal was to digitise its historical collection and curate a complete digitised library of images.

The digitisation of an archived collection delivered a library of 20,000 properly catalogued and tagged images, which opened up access and potential opportunities to commercialise the collection.

Monetising the Australian Geographic image library

With an adequately manually catalogued and AI-tagged collection, the Australian Geographic image library was now commercially available. In addition to providing a commercial and media-friendly stock library for 24/7 access and usage, Australian Geographic also facilitated the sale of colour prints from its collection. Lookatme™ delivered both the Digital Asset Management and ecommerce aspects of this solution.

A sustainable future

As the natural world faces an uncertain future, the documentation of wild Australia serves as an important reminder of where we are and our responsibilities to future generations. Australian Geographic's mission of capturing Australia's essence and spirit through its meticulously crafted and beautifully presented stories and photography will increasingly serve as a reminder of that responsibility, and Lookatme™ is proud to play its role in supporting the team on its journey.
